Yes, so. The Wire is most excellent, but takes a notoriously long time to set itself up. The first few episodes in Season One were a little long and complicated for us, although we did locate the later payoff in awesomeness and character development. But then we started Season Two, and, bam, we're back at ground level again...sigh...
And that's when something finally happened, at the veeeery end of the 56-minute first episode. (Sweet and reserved) Boyfriend turns to me and says, "Alright! A container of dead hookers! Now we're getting somewhere!"
