Little League Coaches Need to Stay Prepared

January 25th, 2012

If you are the coach of a little league team, you are not only in charge of training small children how to be good baseball players and all around athletes, you are also responsible for their safety. When their parents drop them off at practice, for all intents and purposes you become you become their guardian. For this reason, you must stay prepared for all types of emergencies, including small medical emergencies. In addition to bats and baseballs in the equipment bag, be sure to keep an emergency first aid kit fully stocked. You’ll need to remember bandages, antiseptic to clean cuts, and antibiotic ointment. If a cut or scrape happens out on the field, you’ll be able to clean the wound, prevent infection through the application of the ointment, and cover the wound to keep it from getting dirt in it. Parents will be grateful for your preparation and care.

Wisdom Teeth Are No Fun!

January 20th, 2012

I have been having a horrible pain in my mouth, and I finally went to the dentist for it. They told me that I have 3 impacted wisdom teeth, and I will need to get this taken care of right away. I have always had such a fear of getting wisdom teeth, and I honestly thought it would just never happen to me. I am 30 years old, so I thought that either I just had to room in my mouth and would never have to get a wisdom tooth pulled, or they would just not come in for me.

Looks like I was way off this time, and this pain is unbelievable. I have asked my dentist what would happen if I just left the teeth in my mouth, and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said that the pain I am having will not get better at all, so why would I want to do something like that? They will also get infected if I leave them in my mouth, and I will be in pain that is much worse than what I am dealing with now! I can’t even imagine anything worse than this.

When I was a child I had a friend that got her wisdom teeth pulled, and I just remember how bruised she was. It looked like someone had beat her up, and I think that is what really got me scared. I know that I was just a kid, so there is the chance that I have remembered it being a lot worse than it really was. Though I have heard that children recover from things like this much faster than adults do, and that it does not affect them as badly. If that is true, I do not know how I am going to deal with getting my teeth removed.

I had to call my husband crying after my appointment, and he told me that I have to calm down. When I was talking to him he said that it sounded like I was in a car accident or something because I was so upset! He just does not understand how scared I really am about this. If there was anything that I can do so that I would not have to get oral surgery, I would do it in a heart beat. Just thinking about this makes me nervous and scared.

All I can think about is how I can not freak out in front of my children, or they may never want to go to the dentist again. I do not want them to have the same fears that I have, so looks like I am going to have to handle this much better from now on.
